Riello UPS Expands GreenTheUK Partnership With Support For Wildflower Planting
We’ve extended our conservation collaboration to boost biodiversity by supporting the creation of three hectares of wildflower meadows.

Riello UPS is delighted to build on our ongoing partnership with GreenTheUK, the conservation organisation that helps businesses get involved with projects that increase biodiversity, protect species, and enhance local communities.

The latest stage of the collaboration has seen us support the creation of three hectares (30,000 m2) of wildflower meadows in Monmouthshire, Wales.

The project marks another important milestone in the partnership, which began in early 2024 and has already delivered a range of environmental benefits through tree planting, marine habitat restoration, and hands-on conservation volunteering activities.

Wildflowers Creating Vital Wildlife Habitats

The new wildflower meadow has been established at New House Farm in Monmouthshire, forming part of a wider project spanning across five former arable fields. The work aims to create a diverse and resilient habitat that supports pollinators and other wildlife, whilst also contributing to more sustainable land management.

A diverse mixture of grasses, wildflowers, legumes, and herbs have been planted, including yarrow, clovers, and oxeye daisies. Once fully established, these flowering plants will provide valuable sources of nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and other insects, helping to strengthen local biodiversity.

With more than 90% of the UK’s wildflowers having been lost over the last century, restoring these incredible habitats is vital for the species that depend on them.

The planting project forms part of the wider B-Lines initiative led by the conservation organisation Buglife, which aims to connect fragmented habitats and create a much-needed “highway” for insects between remaining areas of wildflower-rich habitat.

This latest involvement follows on from supporting the creation of wildflower gardens at Ysgol Llywelyn primary school in Rhyl, North Wales.

Building On A Growing Environmental Commitment

Since our partnership with GreenTheUK began, Riello UPS has supported the planting of 10,000 climate resilient trees across the UK. We’ve also provided an additional 300 trees as part of the initiative’s ‘Trees For Schools’ programme, alongside helping to restore 300m2 of native oyster reefs.

In addition to these environmental contributions, the partnership has also provided valuable opportunities for our team to get involved directly in various conservation volunteering days.

For example, we’ve enjoyed several trips to the Leighton Redwoods forest near Welshpool in Powys, where our team have undertaken a range of woodland management tasks to help the Royal Forestry Society maintain the 1,000-acre woodland.

We’ve also taken part in woodland volunteering at the Hockeridge and Pancake Woods near Chesham. During one visit, the team enjoyed an informative tour of the 74-hectare forest before planting 100 new saplings, including a mixture of birch, aspen, and oak trees.

Through our continued collaboration with GreenTheUK, we’re proud to support practical conservation projects that restore habitats, protect wildlife, and contribute to a more biodiverse future.
