generator Health Checks
Standby generators are complex machines, and like any machinery, wear and tear is inevitable. Without regular maintenance, there’s a real risk your backup power won’t be ready when you need it most—leaving you vulnerable to costly downtime.
Our specialist Generator Health Checks give you complete peace of mind. Fully certified engineers conduct a thorough inspection of your entire setup, including:
- Visual, physical, electrical, and mechanical testing
- Checking all components and connections
- Ensuring your generator is operating at peak efficiency.
We recommend every site should have a thorough service visit at least every 6 months. This would typically come as part of an ongoing Generator Maintenance Plan, which would include specific Emergency Response Times in case your generator ever breaks down.
However, we understand everyone’s circumstances are different. So even if you aren’t covered by an ongoing maintenance contract with Riello UPS, we offer Generator Health Checks on an ad-hoc basis. If it’s more suitable for you, we even offer dedicated PMV-only maintenance agreements.
In addition, we also offer a comprehensive range of additional generator services and testing, including:
- Fuel polishing and sampling
- Load bank testing
- Refuelling contracts
- Generator refurbishment.

What Does A Generator Health Check Include?
With a standard generator service visit, our certified engineers will visually and physically check the generator and all of its key components.
They’ll carry out comprehensive electrical and mechanical tests to ensure the generator is functioning correctly, and also make sure that the installation environment and surrounding areas are safe and secure.
- Physical & Visual Inspection: check and adjust (if necessary) all belts, hoses, fuel supply lines, pumps, pulleys and valves; ensure battery terminals are secure and all switches, selectors and circuit breakers are in operational positions.
- Electrical Inspection: check all the meters, switches, indicators, and fuses; remove and inspect the main load and alternator covers.
- Mechanical Inspection: we’ll run the generator on load for at least 15 minutes, adjust the voltage and frequency, and verify any remote management software functions properly
- Environmental Inspection: we’ll check to ensure the area around the generator is uncluttered, secure, and has all necessary safety mats and warning signs in place. We’ll also clean the machine and empty drip trays.
- Full reporting of any faults found during the PMV
- Completion of the maintenance register
- Our recommendations to improve operational reliability
