Riello UPS is delighted to continue our ongoing collaboration with GreenTheUK, the conservation organisation that helps businesses get involved with projects that increase biodiversity, protect species, and enhance local communities.
Our partnership dates back to early 2024, and in the subsequent years we’ve since contributed to the planting of 6,000 climate resilient trees, provided a further 300 trees as part of the ‘Trees For Schools’ programme, and helped restore 150m2 of native oysters.
The collaboration has also seen our team take part in various woodland volunteering days and oyster cleaning events.
For 2026, we have pledged to support the planting of 4,000 more climate resilient trees across the country – this will take our overall total to more than 10,000. Such planting brings huge biodiversity benefits, as the UK only has a 13% tree coverage compared to the European average of 38%. We’re also committed to restoring another 150m2 of native oysters in the Solent.
Then as our partnership heads into 2027, we plan to assist with the creation of 3 hectares of wildflower meadows and support several wildflower planting educational sessions in schools across Wales.
Valuable Volunteering Opportunities
In addition to our contribution to biodiversity through planting and oyster restoration, our GreenTheUK partnership also provides plenty of chances for our team to volunteer at various conservation projects.
We have made several trips to the Leighton Redwoods forest near Welshpool in Powys, where our team have undertaken a range of woodland management tasks to help the Royal Forestry Society maintain the 1,000-acre woodland.
Colleagues have also contributed to the Solent Seascape Project, which helps to restore native oysters in a straight of the English Channel between the coast of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
While our most recent woodland volunteering day took place in March at the Hockeridge and Pancake Woods near Chesham. Several of our team enjoyed an informative tour of the 74-hectare forest, followed by an energetic afternoon that saw them plant 100 new saplings, including a mixture of birch, aspen, and oak trees.
These volunteering days are hugely informative and enable our staff to put something back by supporting such worthwhile causes.
