Riello UPS is proud to announce its team successfully passed the ultimate test of endurance and fulfilled our ‘Power Walk For Peter’.
The charity challenge was devised as a massive show of support for our popular colleague Peter Walthall, who was diagnosed with the degenerative condition Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in December 2024.
So on 19-20 September, several of Peter’s teammates walked an incredible 42 miles from the Riello UPS head office in Wrexham to Port Vale Football Club’s Vale Park stadium in Burslem, Staffordshire.
The walk’s finishing point was specifically chosen to reflect Peter’s 50+ years as a loyal Port Vale fan. Our heroic walkers, including Peter’s wife Tracey and sister Pat for the final few miles, were welcomed at the stadium by Peter and several of his closest family and friends.
Port Vale’s charitable foundation kindly hosted us all for some well-deserved refreshments, while they also provided Peter with several never to be forgotten moments. He got to meet the first team squad in the changing room before the match against Mansfield Town, received a replica shirt autographed by the team, and also presented the ‘Player of the Match’ award following the match.

4 Offices United As 1 Winning Team
In addition to the Wrexham to Port Vale walk, colleagues from across the Riello UPS family showed their support for Peter too.
Staff from our Scotland office carried out their own epic walk on the same two days, trekking 38 miles from the Cumbernauld base to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Not to be left out, employees from our other regional branches in Letchworth (Hertfordshire) and Fareham (Hampshire) also got in on the act too by getting temporary treadmills installed so they could take it in turns and complete equivalent distances to the sponsored walks.

Supporting The MND Association
Thanks to the generosity of colleagues, customers, suppliers, resellers, family, friends, and also some complete strangers our walkers met on their route, we have already managed to raise more than £5,200.
Those funds, and whatever we raise in the subsequent weeks and months, will go to support our Charity of the Year for 2025 the MND Association. The organisation focuses on improving access to care, research, and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing degenerative condition that affects how messages from your brain reach your muscles. It affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and there’s a 1 in 300 risk of getting it across a lifetime.
While symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life, MND is life-shortening and there is currently no cure. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and more than half within two years.
You can still donate to our ‘Power Walk For Peter’ campaign here at our JustGiving page. Thanks in advance for your support, it’s really appreciated by Peter, his family, and all of us here at Riello UPS!
